The 2023 Australian Workshop on Public Finance is hosted by the Tax and Transfer Policy Institute, Australian National University (ANU) and will be held on Thursday 3 and Friday 4 August 2023 at the Crawford School of Public Policy at the ANU.

This is a call for submission of extended abstracts or full papers. Empirical papers using Australian administrative datasets in any area of public economics, public finance, or tax policy, from any discipline, are welcome. The submission deadline is 12 June 2023. Please send submissions to [email protected]. If you do not have a paper to submit but are interested in being a discussant, please let us know at the same email address. The selection of papers and discussants will be finalised by 1 July 2023. Domestic travel and accommodation will be covered for paper presenters and discussants. There is no registration fee for the workshop.

The conference will feature empirical research papers in any area of public economics, with a particular focus on papers that make use of the A-LIFE, DOMINO, MADIP, BLADE, Single Touch Payroll or other Australian administrative datasets. We welcome research papers and methodological papers which can help other researchers in using the data (making best use of the data; the representativeness of the data; tips and tricks for coding variables into useful variables for analysis, etc.) Each paper will be assigned a discussant.

Priority will be given to papers using Australian data over those using data from other countries. We welcome incomplete papers and work in progress. Please feel free to forward this message to colleagues who may be interested.

We look forward to seeing you in Canberra.

Best wishes

Robert Breunig, ANU; Christian Gillitzer, University of Sydney; Claudio Labanca, Monash University; Maathu Ranjan, ANU; Tristram Sainsbury, ANU
