The Australian Council of Social Service (ACOSS) has published their Analysis of the 2018-19 Budget, assessing the significance of both the Coalition and the Opposition tax policies.
The analysis covers the following key areas:
- Tax
- Social security
- Essential services
- Health and aged care
- Missing in action
Each section addresses what is in the 2018-19 Budget for each key area, its impact on people, what is missing in action, ACOSS commentary and sector views.
Overall, ACOSS CEO Dr Cassandra Goldie affirms that essential services cannot be guaranteed, and people on low incomes will suffer most if too much revenue is given away now in a race to the bottom on personal income tax cuts. With three million people living in poverty in Australia, she concludes, this is a time for careful budgeting.
