The United Kingdom Government has delivered its Summer Economic Update in Parliament and set out a package of measures to support jobs and help the UK economy recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic.
This include:
- A one-off £1,000 Job Retention Bonus per employee to help firms keep furloughed workers;
- A £2 billion Kickstart Scheme to create hundreds of thousands of new, fully subsidised jobs for young people across the country;
- A £2 billion Green Homes Grant scheme to pay for green improvements;
- Reducing the rate of VAT on most tourism and hospitality-related activities to 5% from 20%;
- Providing a 50% reduction for sit-down meals in cafes, restaurants and pubs across the UK from Monday to Wednesday every week throughout August 2020 to encourage people to safely return to eating out at restaurants.
