The Australian Parliamentary Budget Office (PBO) has released its fourth edition of the medium-term projections report. The report provides detailed analysis and projections of Australian government receipts and payments over the forward estimates and the medium-term period.
The 2019-20 report shows that:
- ongoing government spending restraint, combined with lower public debt interest payments, are driving an improving fiscal position;
- much of the impact of bracket creep is offset by significant personal income tax cuts;
- the tax cuts have removed the buffer against adverse revenue shocks; and
- significant risks to the fiscal projections remain.
