The Australian Parliamentary Budget Office (PBO) has released its fourth edition of the medium-term projections report. The report provides detailed analysis and projections of Australian government receipts and payments over the forward estimates and the medium-term period.

The 2019-20 report shows that:

  1. ongoing government spending restraint, combined with lower public debt interest payments, are driving an improving fiscal position;
  2. much of the impact of bracket creep is offset by significant personal income tax cuts;
  3. the tax cuts have removed the buffer against adverse revenue shocks; and
  4. significant risks to the fiscal projections remain.
