The 19th Household, Income and Labour Dynamics in Australia (HILDA) Statistical Report has been released.
Conducted by the Melbourne Institute of Applied Economic & Social Research, the report presents key findings from Waves 1 to 22 of the HILDA Survey and explores 12 topics:
- Households and family life
- Household economic wellbeing
- The labour market
- Household wealth
- COVID-19: Behaviours, perceptions and symptoms
- Perceived employment discrimination
- Housing and neighbourhood satisfaction
- Gambling
- Religious affiliation and attendance at religious services
- Community participation
- Charitable giving
- Pet ownership
Key findings from the report include:
- Inequality in Australia is at its highest since the HILDA Survey started in 2001.
- Australian men are not doing more housework than they were 20 years ago.
- The risk of problem gambling is increasing in Australia.
- Three factors, regular savings habits, a longer savings horizon, and greater preparedness to take financial risks, were found to be associated with greater wealth accumulation.
- Single parents are the demographic that is the most negatively impacted by economic factors.
- The percentage of Australians reporting weather-related damage to their house reached an unprecedented level.
