Alberto Alesina, the Nathaniel Ropes Professor of Political Economy at Harvard University, passed away on Saturday (23 May 2020) at age 63. He was well known for his work on fiscal policy and recently won the Hayek Book Prize together with his co-authors Carlo Favero and Francesco Giavazzi for their book, Austerity: When It Works and When It Doesn’t.
He was the director of the political economy program of the US National Bureau of Economic Research since 2006.
